Smartec Company presents its new STC-3009 Day/Night cameras equipped with removable IR cut filter and capable to deliver superior images with 540 TVL res at up to 0,08/0,04 lux of min illumination. This Day/Night camera is equipped with 1/3″ SONY Super HAD II CCD, featuring improved color rendering, digital noise reduction (DNR), auto gain control (AGC), flickerless/backlight compensation. In addition this Day/Night analog enables user to mount lenses with auto iris controlled by DC or video signals.
This Day/Night camera features Sony SuperHAD II CCD and Sony processing algorithm allowing Smartec Day/Night cameras to produce highly detailed video with 540 TVL resolution in bright, artificial or natural light conditions. In low light Smartec analog camera activates auto gain control, that increases the signal level at 26 dB.
Round-the-clock video surveillance is provided by removable IR cut filter, which switches analog between “Day” and “Night” modes. In 2 lux of minimum illumination, IR cut filter is automatically disabled and Smartec Day/Night camera switches from color to b/w mode. In addition new camera can produce color and b/w video at 0.08/0.04 lux respectively.
Digital noise reduction (DNR) elimenates noise component of the video signal enabling Day/Night camera to improve images quality even in different conditions. With activated DNR function Day/Night camera provides serious disk space saving along with an improved visual perception of the image. C
amera settings can be adjusted using DIP-switches on a back panel of the analog camera. It allows customer to adjust settings and activate needed functions according to the recent operating conditions. For example, this Day/Night camera enables user to activate automatic gain control (AGC), internal synchronization, flickerless/backlight compensation and electronic shutter operation.
Basic model of Smartec Day/Night analog camera can operate indoors at temperatures ranging from -10 ° to +50 ° C. For camera mounting it is recommended to use optional wall/ceiling brackets: Smartec STB-C01 and STB-C02. The efficiency of security cameras in low light conditions enables customer to utilize this camera for outdoor operation. Depending on temperature, humidity and other factors, this camera must be placed in a thermal housing. For example, Smartec STC-1230S thermal housing has IP66 rating and ensures stable security camera operation at -40 ° to +50 ° C.
New security camera supports all types of lenses allowing user to utilize camera in different monitoring conditions. For example, STC-3009 Day/Night camera can work with varifocal model STL-2712DC or STL-40FFDC lens with fixed focal length. In addition new Smartec Day/Night camera can operate with lenses with AI, controlled by video or DC signal.

Some Sony camcorders and older still cameras (such as the f828 f717 f707 f505) had a switchable IR filter internal to the camera. By switching the IR filter the anti-aliasing filter over the imaging device was physically moved to be replaced by an IR filter, the camera also emitted an IR beam from below the lens. Sony called this feature NightShot and Super Night Shot, but it was essentially an IR function.
In addition to what everyone has said, do not underexpose and then try to compensate by lifting levels in post processing. That causes noise in the dark areas to get even worse.
After a little searching “day-night” cameras seem to be used mainly in the security industry, they do need some light, where as Ir cameras can work in total darkness. they use a IR emitter which lights up the are the camera can record this tyoe of light giving you a picture.
