On Saturday, U.S took North Korea, a long threat to the world, off the list of being a terror nation. Interestingly enough, after such long refusal to compromise, N. Korea finally decided to allow the UN and its allies to inspect the labs and other areas of the nation where nuclear weapons, or means of creating nuclear weapons, might be stashed. What catches me by surprise is ‘Why did it take so long to accept the conditions?’
Nuclear Secrets Revealed
At first North Korea was opposing to the way U.S was going to verify its nuclear secrets. Now, however, N. Korea is allowing access to its laboratories and other keys places. The problem that I see with all this is that how do we know that U.S or the U.N will be able to inspect all of the necessary locations where weapons of mass destruction could be hidden. There must be secret locations that the U.N has no way of tracking. Even if we ignore that fact, what about the fact that North Korea wants to be taken off the “Evil” list when America is at its weakest and most vulnerable period in a long time. Think about it logically, would you give in to your enemy at a time that they seem to have no power to really do anything to you? I am not putting U.S down, I’m just trying to look at it from the point of view of the long-standing enemy.
From the wise words of Jim Morrison, “the future’s uncertain,” but hopefully the end is not near. It was only in 2006 that North Korea tested its first nuclear weapon, and now its leader, Kim Jong Il is committed to disabling his nuclear reactor. One nation down from the list, another four to go. We need Iran, Cuba, Sudan, and Syria to cooperate in order to have a safe world. Iran seems to bring most threat to U.S and the rest of the industrialised world, but only time will tell where this will lead.
Final Thoughts
It’s interesting to see what type of relationship North Korea will now have with the western world. Also, I find it funny to see how much effort U.S was putting into making North Korea look monstrous, and if they will put as much effort to improve its name now that it’s no longer an “axis of evil”.

Kim is getting weaker. Barely anyone hears from him anymore. That’s why I think they’re giving in. Cuba lost Fidel, so they’re probably next to be taken off the list. The Castro brother doesn’t seem to be as strong as Fidel ever was.
Although it takes N.Korea so long to accept the investigate, I am still glad that at least they are now ‘clean’. Eagerly waiting for the day that this list becomes useless.
